Account Management

Everything you need to manage your Visita account.

Accessing Settings

Go to visita.co.za/account/settings to manage your account.

Profile Settings

Update Your Name

  1. Go to Account Settings → Profile
  2. Edit your display name
  3. Click Save

Update Profile Photo

  1. Go to Account Settings → Profile
  2. Click on your avatar
  3. Upload a new image

Civic Profile

Add skills and a bio to let neighbors know how you can help:
  • Bio: Short description of your civic interests
  • Skills: First Aid, Legal, Engineering, etc.
Adding skills helps you get matched with relevant projects

Security Settings

Change Password

  1. Go to Account Settings → Security
  2. Click “Change Password”
  3. Enter current password
  4. Enter new password (twice)

Reset Password

If you forgot your password:
  1. Go to visita.co.za/auth/forgot-password
  2. Enter your email
  3. Check inbox for reset link
  4. Create new password

Two-Factor Authentication

Coming soon — Additional security for your account.

Civic Wallet

Manage your Shukrands (Community Currency) and financial contributions.

Access Your Wallet

Go to Account Settings → My Wallet (or visita.co.za/account/wallet).

Features

  • Balance: View your available funds (Pegged 1:1 to ZAR).
  • History: Track all earnings, pledges, and refunds.
  • Top Up: Buy Shukrands to fund community projects.
  • Withdraw: Transfer funds back to your bank account.

Refunds

If a project you pledged to is cancelled, your funds are automatically returned to your wallet. You can then choose to withdraw them or re-pledge to another cause.

Ward Membership

Switch Home Ward

  1. Go to Account Settings → Ward
  2. Click “Change Ward”
  3. Search for new ward
  4. Confirm switch
You can only switch wards once every 72 hours

Leave Ward

Leaving a ward removes your ability to:
  • Vote on decisions
  • Post in discussions
  • Join projects
Your past contributions remain visible but anonymized.

Control what emails you receive:

Data Management

Download Your Data

Get a copy of all your data:
  1. Go to Account Settings → Privacy
  2. Click “Download My Data”
  3. You’ll receive a JSON file

Delete Account

This action is permanent and cannot be undone.
  1. Go to Account Settings → Privacy
  2. Click “Delete Account”
  3. Enter your password to confirm
  4. Account will be scheduled for deletion
What happens:
  • Profile removed immediately
  • Email unsubscribed
  • Past reports anonymized (not deleted)
  • Votes removed from counts

Troubleshooting

  • Verify email and password are correct
  • Try password reset
  • Check if account was deleted
  • Contact support@visita.co.za
  • Check spam/junk folder
  • Verify email address is correct
  • Add visita.co.za to safe senders
  • Check notification settings
  1. Go to Account Settings → Profile
  2. Click “Change Email”
  3. Enter new email
  4. Verify via confirmation link sent to new email
